Alaa

Alaa Al Najjar is a Palestinian paediatrician from Gaza.

On the morning of Friday, May 23, 2025, Alaa left her home for work. Minutes later, an Israeli airstrike hit their house, resulting in the deaths of nine of her children: Yahya, Rakan, Ruslan, Jubran, Eve, Revan, Saydeen, Luqman, and Sidra. The husband was injured and died days later.

Their tenth child, Adam, survived the strike.

Alaa and Adam have been evacuated to Italy for medical treatment.

I was profoundly shocked by the story of Alaa and her family, and I decided to paint her as a homage to her strength.
